CIO: Control API Sprawl and Cost: Governance, Visibility and Integrated Management (Oct 13th)
Wednesday, October 13th, 2021: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Many organizations have API initiatives that link workflows and applications throughout their business ecosystems. The problem for many is that there are too many API solutions in use. The complexity, duplication, and cost of management and security is threatening to overwhelm IT leaders. That's why many are turning to integrated API governance solutions to bring all systems, processes, and APIs together with one unified, management approach.

This helps companies build APIs faster, identify which APIs to reuse, organize access to API internally and externally via a marketplace, monetize APIs, and shorten system onboarding times. Instead, these companies focus on API growth consumption, rather than duplicating efforts. Join CIO contributing editor Charles Pelton and subject-matter experts from Axway for a private, interactive, virtual roundtable discussing governance in the world of APIs

CIO: Manage Cloud Sprawl and Create Consistency Across Hybrid Multi-Cloud Infrastructure Environments (Oct 19th)
Tuesday, October 19th, 2021: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Virtualization...containerization...server automation...hyper-converged infrastructures. Over the past 18 months, each of these concepts has seen accelerated adoption across all industries. In so doing, many organizations have witnessed a spike in complexity and fragmentation, prompting many to explore how to overcome inconsistency and complexity while dealing with application sprawl and siloed data across cloud providers. Organizations find their use of multiple clouds was born out of decentralized IT practices, making it challenging for IT Ops teams to untangle the complexity.

Join CIO contributing editor Lane Cooper and subject-matter experts from our roundtable sponsor, IBM, for a private, interactive, virtual roundtable.

CIO: The Evolution of Business-Centric IT Ops Strategies for Retail Sector (Oct 20th)
Wednesday, October 20th, 2021: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Spending on hybrid, multi-cloud infrastructure technologies is now standard across all types of retailers, even though most retail budgets were stressed in 2020. Indeed, many retailers are accelerating their digital transformation efforts through current and planned investments in cloud and mobile-based inventory management, self-checkout, fulfillment, demand forecasting, price, and promo optimization, among other initiatives. These trends raise a couple of crucial questions:

What drives these decisions, and to what extent are business-centric considerations at the center of technology modernization initiatives? More importantly, how can IT operations (IT Ops) be optimized to support these business transformation activities?

CIO: Zero Trust Data Management (Oct 27th)
Wednesday, October 27th, 2021: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
As organizations struggle with the 'perimeter free' defensive posture of the future, the use of a zero-trust approach to various aspects of cyber-security has become a 'go-to' approach. This NIST standard is well suited for modern cyber-defense strategies. For many organizations the focus has been on access management, but more can be done. Extending zero-trust techniques to data management delivers many benefits and improves the security posture of the organization.

Deploying a zero-trust data management solution fits the current reality. For example, rather than depend on a 100% success rate for preventing intrusion, this new approach assumes that a breach or ransomware attack is likely and protects the data backups from it. This makes it possible to recover more quickly. A critical benefit from this approach is that it is now possible to determine the 'blast radius' or what data has been compromised. This allows SecOps or IT teams to protect data that hasn't been impacted and focus on only the compromised data. More importantly, zero-trust data management ensures that backups are protected and remain intact so they can be used to reduce the time necessary to resume operations.

Dependency Myth Busting - Agility at Scale
Wednesday, October 13th, 2021: 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Dependencies are killing your agility and you want to fight back. A common belief is that if we just re-organize ourselves 'correctly' (for example, organize 100% into feature teams) we can eliminate dependencies. This is a myth. Certainly re-organizing can help, but eliminating all dependencies when trying to do agile at scale is not practical. There are many other beliefs that cloud our minds when dealing with dependencies.

For example, if we could just identify all of the dependencies upfront, we could manage them. Or if we just had a more detailed dependency-management process with awesome tool support, we could tame our dependencies. Yeah, no.

Integrated Agile
Wednesday, October 27th, 2021: 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Agile mixed with Waterfall exists in every product development organization globally, yet current thinking teaches us to crusade for one approach at the expense of the other - an approach that creates unnecessary resistance and alienates people with different perspectives.

The question is: How can we manage the reality of a mixed-methods environment while still receiving the intended benefits of both approaches? In this talk, Brock Argue and Erkan Kadir will introduce Integrated Agile, a groundbreaking and practical approach that leverages Polarity Thinking to manage the predictable dynamics between Agile and Waterfall while maximizing the upsides of both approaches.
