Managing Insider Risk in the Remote Era (Oct 1st)
Thursday, October 1st, 2020: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (EST)

In this virtual roundtable we'll discuss how insider risk has always been an issue that businesses have had to address. But the new work model, with users scattered to the winds, is exposing organizations to greater risks originating from their users driven by the current work dynamic. While every business should have an insider risk program in place, 2020 is showing us why it's important to push insider risk up the list of priorities.

Many are realizing that with a vastly distributed workforce, users can pose a significantly elevated risk to the business. While those risks often arise in response to users just trying to get their jobs done, we're seeing concerted and sophisticated efforts, across many industries, to compromise those users.

(CS)2AI ONLINE: Control System Security Incident Handling in the Fog of War
Thursday, September 24th, 2020: 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM

Control Systems are fundamental to the smooth functioning of huge areas of developed nations. Most are intended to operate with extremely little downtime and optimally none that isn't planned for. Incidents do occur from many sources, and impacts can range from simple interruption of service to significant financial impact or even loss of life. Cyber security incidents have complications beyond their immediate impact, requiring forensic research and analysis not only to determine root causes but to ensure removal of threat actors' accesses and influences to prevent further incidents.

Questions addressed will include:

  • Who should lead OT cyber security incident handling efforts?
  • How does cyber security incident handling in Operational Tech differ from IT?
  • What are some best practices to prepare for effective incident response?
  • When should internal teams call on outside resources for help?

Managing Serverless Costs with Kubernetes
Tuesday, September 29th, 2020: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

Serverless has been widely accepted as a mechanism to deploy and run software easily. However, the cost of running production scale workloads on Serverless can be surprisingly high. Wouldn't it be great if we could get the benefits of running workloads on serverless without the hassle of worrying about costs?

Enter Knative, an open standard allowing you to run serverless workloads on your own Kubernetes clusters. In this talk, we will walk through a real world example of how we used Google CloudFunctions (FaaS) at WP Engine to deploy a serverless data pipeline, and then transitioned that workload to using Cloud Run (built upon Knative) and Kubernetes to achieve the same results at a greatly reduced cost. We will dive deep into how we achieved the cost savings, handle fault tolerance, concurrency and auto-scaling...
